1400 athletes for Airforce Games in Katsina

About 1400 athletes and 100 officials are expected in Katsina for the 2016 Nigeria Airforce Games, Chairman of the Airforce Annual Games, Air Commodore Charles Oghomwen has said.

Oghomwen, who disclosed this during a courtesy call on Katsina state governor, said already a 20-member committee comprising serving and retired Airforce officers have been mandated to see to the successful organisati­on of the games.

According to him, the team was in Katsina to inspect sporting facilities and accommodat­ion ahead of the games, saying that “we are impressed with what is on ground but only some few things need to add up to what was needed.”

He said, the Airforce is giving priority to sports in view of its importance in fitness and boosting the morale of its personnel.

Earlier, Governor Aminu Masari had acknowledg­ed the effort of the Nigeria Airforce for reviving sporting activities in the country.

He assured the team of his administra­tion’s readiness to ensure a smooth hosting of the event which he said will go a long way in developing the facilities in the state.

Meanwhile, the Airforce team was conducted round the 35,000 capacity Muhammadu Dikko Stadium by the state’s Commission­er for Sports, Alhaji Abdu Habu Dankum and Senior Special Assistant on sports, Alhaji Aminu Balele Dan Arewa Kurfi.
