Musa optimistic sale of equipment will improve after recession

- By Mansur Abubakar

Professional golfer Nura Abubakar Musa who also doubles as a dealer in golf equipment says the current economic recession affecting the country has also led to a massive drop in the sale of the golfing gears, saying things will only improve when the economy gets better.

In a chat with Golf Digest, the Kano based golfer added that there was a time when he was always getting requests for new equipment from interested golfers but things are idle at this time.

“Hopefully people will begin to make more requests when the economy improves because in times like this golf takes a back seat for most people.” Musa said.

The golfer cum businessman said he brings in his products from the United Kingdom, Japan and the United States of America, also hailing the Japanese golf clubs as the best on the globe.

“I bring in high quality clubs from UK and the U.S but the Japanese have the best golf clubs in the world. At this time people prefer to use their old clubs than buying new ones.”

He also sells out second hand clubs and sets and other equipment for low income earners who can’t afford to buy brand new Japanese or British products.

“I also have fairly used clubs that go for between N80,000 to N150,000 depending on the user because some people that love the sport can also not afford to go for the top range so they come to us for this level of products.”

On which one he uses at the moment, Musa revealed he has always been fond of King Brand of clubs which he bought from UK at N150K which he believes adds quality to his game.

“Everyone has his particular taste. It’s just like cars, some prefer Honda, Toyota etc. likewise golf. We have Modart, Royal and Taylormade which world number one, Jason Day uses, for me, ‘King’ is amazing. It does not give me good distance only but it is also forgiving in terms of errors,” Musa concluded.
