A community leader on Allen Avenue, Ikeja, has been arrested by detectives from the Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Annex, Lagos, for allegedly issuing dud cheques totaling N14 million.

The suspect, simply identified as Bolaji, had allegedly issued the cheques to a hotel in Lagos, as part payment of rent arrears of the hotel he rented in Ikeja area of Lagos State.

His arrest was sequel to a petition written by the owner of the hotel to the force headquarters, annex, alleging that the accused had bluntly refused to pay for the rent and vacate the property.

Photocopies of the dud cheques showed six cheques of N2m, one cheque ofN1m and two cheques of N500,000.00 written in favour of the hotel.

The suspect was said to have denied issuing any dud cheques to the complainant, insisting that he had advised the complainant not to present the cheques for payment until he told him to do so.

He said that contrary to his advice, the complainant presented the cheques to the bank to be cashed.

According to him, he was not only surprised but shocked when he got to know that rather than towing the line of peace, the complaint went ahead to petition the police and made some allegations against him.

Detectives have arrested herbalist’s wife for her alleged involvement in the murder of two persons.

Also arrested were two of the herbalist’s children who were alleged to have assisted their mother in killing the victims.

The suspects, as Mrs. Olaide Raheem, Sadik Raheem and Adam Raheem, were detained at Agbado Crossing Police Division.

The suspects were alleged to have hypnotised their victims before killing them.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Owonikoko Street Agbado Crossing, Ogun State.

The deceased persons, identified as Wasiu Balogun, 38, a panel beater, and Wale Aderinto, a welder, resided at No 8, Akin Afape Street, Agbado Crossing, Ogun State.

According to the wife of one of the deceased persons, Mutiyat, trouble started when one Kabira Raheem lied against her husband and his friend that they were mocking her while she was eating outside their house.

She said: “My husband and his friend, who went out, just came back, when one of Mrs. Olaide Raheem’s sons used a knife laced with charm to stab him and, instantly, he fell down and died while their mother also used a fetish object to hit his friend and, he too, died instantly. I have five children, four girls and a boy. The last child, Aisha, just clocked six months on September 3. I want the government to come to my aid.”

When our reporter visited the police station, a large crowd of sympathisers had gathered at the scene discussing the incident.

All attempt to see the Divisional Police Officer, DPO Mr Shittu, a Chief Superintended of Police (CSP), proved abortive as he was busy attending to the parties concerned in the case.
