Police arrest octogenarian, 21 others for kidnapping, rustling
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man and 21 others suspected to be part of a large kidnapping and rustling gang terrorising residents in Doguwa, Sumaila and Tudun Wada local government areas of the state.
Parading the suspects, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf, said that 96 cattle, 33 sheep, 56 rounds of ammunitions, 4 AK47 rifles and other weapons were recovered from the suspects.
He said that the 70-yearold man, Halilu Maikudi, was arrested along with six others at Falgore village of Douguwa Local Government Area of Kano State, where they allegedly used to kidnap people.
The commissioner said that two people in Gomo village in Sumaila Local Government Area were nabbed for conspiring with two others, now at large, to kidnap two housewives and a 14-year-old girl.
He said that the suspects took the victims into the forest where they raped and later released them, adding that the culprits, who were identified by the victims, were detained by the police.
“It is crystal clear that the Kano State Police Command is more determined than ever before to fight crime and criminality,” Yusuf said.
“We shall continue to synergise with sister security agencies to keep criminals at bay.”
On his part, the District Head of Doguwa, Alhaji Aliyu Harazumi, said that efforts of the police to root out kidnappers in his domain have yielded positive result as residents in the area were now able to move around freely and sleep peacefully.
