- By Kehinde Olufowobi, Lagos

VDT Communications Limited is the leading provider of Broadband communication services to corporate organisations in Nigeria.

It has offices and operations at 95 Points of Presence (POPs) spread across the country. From these POPs VDT is capable of providing quality Broadband services such as Digital Leased Circuit (DLC), Wireless connectivity and Corporate Internet to all parts of Nigeria using mainly terrestrial technology -all via national VPN/MPLS backbone.

VDT Communications Limited which recently celebrated her 15 years of offering premium services in Nigeria, commenced her retail arm with VDTLte 4G Advanced with growing a coverage since November, 2015, thereby giving members of the general public an opportunity to enjoy her quality services.

An ISO 9001 and first ISO 20000 internationally certified telecom company in West and Central Africa for excellent IT service management and winner of several awards including the “Bandwidth Company of the Year”, 2016, “Broadband Company of the Year”, 2015 “Bulk Internet Provider 2011 and 2012” and "Wireless Backhaul Provider 2009 and 2010", VDT operates one of the most advanced telecommunications networks in the country.

The company's Network infrastructure design is structured towards providing a broad range of end-to-end efficient and reliable IP-based (data and voice communications) services while building a long term, trusted partnership with its clients. Consequently, VDT provides services to about 95% of banks and 80% of insurance companies in Nigeria as well as leading multi-national companies, government agencies and blue-chip companies across other sectors.

In a recent a Learning and Development Benchmark Survey conducted by Digital Jewels Limited which involved over 100 corporate organisations, the VDT Communications was named amongst the 5 best organisations in Nigeria that promotes Learning and Development among her staff.

The company has relentlessly pursued a productive Learning and Development policies for her staff across board in spite of the economic crunch in the country. It is mandatory that each VDT staff undergoes major external training in his or her area of competence twice in a year. This is in addition to several workshops, seminars and conferences recommended for different staff members throughout the year.

Furthermore, monthly internal training driven by the staff members in each department is an active aspect of VDT’s Learning and Development Policy. Also, top management staff are enrolled in management programmes of prestigious tertiary institutions such as the SMP programme of Lagos Business School, Pan Atlantic University, Lagos.

Some technical staff members are staff are also sent abroad on specialised training in different aspects of our services.

In the area of Corporate Social Responsibility, VDT offers free training to graduates in her Modular Trainee Engineers Programme to increase the employability of our engineering graduates. The company believes that the problem of unemployment in Nigeria is not only due to lack of jobs, but due to the fact that a good number of Nigerian graduates lack the requisite experience and knowhow which make them unemployable, especially in a technical field like engineering.

This is why VDT decided to take the bull by the horns by offering a free training platform for our graduates. In June this year, VDT passed out the third batch of graduates from the programme and has since commenced the admission and training of the fourth batch. It also engages in other CRS activities aimed at developing the Nigerian Telecom and ICT industry in general and giving back to the society.

Among these include loyal sponsorship of the following events annually without fail for many years now: Digital Africa Conference and Exhibition, Nigerian Insurance Association Chief Information Officers [NIA CIO] Conference, God’s Children Great Talent and IPV6 Workshop organised annually for Network Engineers in the country.

VDT also sponsors and promotes the International Girls in ICT Day and Logistics Conference among others. The ICT company led the Bitflux consortium that won the auction for the 2.3GHz spectrum license. Thus, the company is playing a leading role in broadband communication in Nigeria.

VDT comprises young enterprising Nigerian professionals who have made a mark of excellence in the industry and represents the hope of the ICT industry in Nigeria when the prospect of a well-managed broadband landscape is considered.

The Managing Director/CEO of VDT Communications, Mr Abiodun Omoniyi, is a consummate entrepreneur that has over 20 years of top corporate management experience in the ICT sector of the economy. He founded and served as the pioneer managing director of Bitcom Systems Limited (a System integration company, established in 1989), from where he moved to establish VDT Communications Limited in 2001, to focus mainly on providing Broadband Communications Service to the growing data-centric financial industry among other sectors of the Nigerian economy.

He has since led the growth of VDT through his dynamic management style from the then one branch office to the multi-branch, nationwide entity it is today, providing broadband services to numerous customers in the banking and financial services sector, logistics and manufacturing.
