Pillars appeal to fans ahead of El-Kanemi clash

- By Mansur Abubakar

Ahead of Wednesday’s rescheduled match against neighbours El-Kanemi Warriors, Kano Pillars have appealed to their fans to maintain peace and orderliness.

Tension is said to be building among some fans of ‘Masu Gida’ who said they endured a torrid reception when they visited Maiduguri for the reverse fixture three months ago and are planning to pay the north eastern club’s fans in their own coin.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Pillars Media Officer, Idris Malikawa said the fans should understand that the mouth watering tie is a ‘family affair’.

“The tensions are unnecessary as far as we (Kano Pillars) are concerned because Pillars and Warriors are family; remember when we allowed them to use our ground for close to three years, so we are appealing to fans of both teams to maintain peace and order,” Malikawa said.

The match which would have held on Sunday had was postponed to Wednesday in order to accommodate a rescheduled game between Masu Gida’s opponents, El Kanemi and Heartland FC which took place in Maiduguri.

Meanwhile, Captain of Heartland, Chinedu Efugh has blamed the referee who officiated their game for their 1-0 loss to El Kanemi saying his team deserved at least one point from the match.

Efugh admitted that the defeat was a setback in their fight to avoid relegation.

“The referee in the NPFL matchday 35 tie at El Kanemi Warriors is the worst I have ever seen in the whole world.

“El Kanemi Warriors’ goal is incontestable, very good goal, but the clean penalty we got could only be denied in the entire world by the referee that officiated today’s game.”
