CITY NEWS Gunmen kill 2 at Kuje community

- Stories by Abubakar Sadiq Isah

Gunmen, in the early hours of Friday, killed two persons at Kwaku village of Kuje Area Council in Abuja.

A witness said the incident happened at about 1:23am when the gunmen, in numbers, invaded the village, shooting sporadically in the air.

He said the gunmen killed two young men at the village who were trying to escape from their houses.

He said the gunmen went to many houses and shops and dispossessed residents of their money, other valuables and telephone handsets.

“In fact, it was God that saved one of my neighbour who sells handsets,” the source said. “The gunmen came into his house shouting, where is Yunusa but when he heard their voice, he quickly jumped through the window and hid inside the bush at the backyard of the house.”

Another resident, simply identified as Usman, said the gunmen operated in the community for nearly three hours before they left, adding that policemen at the village’s outpost and vigilante members were overwhelmed by the robbers who wielded sophisticated weapons.

The Kuje Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP I. J. Jega, could not be reached for comment, while none of the police officers at the division agreed to talk to our reporter.

Last week, some men, suspected to be armed robbers, invaded neighbouring Tude village of the Kuje Council Area and dispossessed residents of their money and other valuables and injured some villagers.
