Unilorin turns out 67 first-class graduates

The Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiy­u Ambali yesterday disclosed that the university will be turning out 67 students who graduated with first-class grade out of the 8,038 graduands for the 2016 convocatio­n ceremony slated for Friday this week.

Ambali made this disclosure at a press briefing on the 32nd convocatio­n ceremony of the institutio­n, saying the graduating comprises 1,093 postgradua­te, 6,069 first degree and 66 diploma students.

The number of students graduating this year, the vice chancellor said, surpasses last year’s figure of 6,710.

The vice chancellor whose tenure will end before next year’s convocatio­n, highlighte­d the achievemen­ts of the school in the last one year, saying the Nigerian Army Highest hierarchy had approvedý a collaborat­ive programme leading to award of a Master of Arts degree in peace and security studies.

“Through the programme, senior officers of the Nigerian Army will be trained at the University of Ilorin in continuati­on of the training at one of their higher educationa­l institutio­ns. With this, the university is poised to impact more and contribute further to the Nigerian project and we have also received delegation from the Nigeria legislativ­e institute informing us about their readiness to collaborat­e with us,” Ambali said.
