Man sells cheaper milk brand for Peak
A 56-year-old man Christopher Nnabuihe who specializes in filling packs of Peak Powdered Milk with cheaper milk brand has been arrested in Calabar, capital of Cross River State
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) coordinator in Cross River State, Dr. Isaac Kolawole said Nnabuihe, who resides at 42, Cameroun Road, Calabar confessed to be refilling 440g packs of Peak powdered milk with a cheaper brand of milk product which he buys in large quantities.
Nnabuihe said he bought the already printed 440g packs from Ariaria Relieve Market Aba, Abia state from where he takes them to Calabar for refilling and sealing up with aid of candle light.
“One 50kg of the milk will fill 27 pieces and I sell one carton of the fake peak milk at N6,000 and make a profit of N1,000 per carton,” he said, explaining that you could only suspect it to be fake from the taste as the packaging of the fake and original milk appear the same.
The NAFDAC Coordinator said that they had been receiving complaints of adulterated Peak milk from consumers which made them to swing into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect when he was making supplies to stores.
He said hard time awaited those who indulged in adulteration of NAFDAC regulated products as the agency would always move against them.
