Cleric advises parents on children’s upbringing

- By Muideen Olaniyi

Parents should take care of the mental, physical, moral and psychological wellbeing of their children to prevent them from corrupt acts in the society, an Islamic scholar, Imam Abdulganiy Abdurraheem, has advised.

Abdurraheem gave the advice in Abuja during an annual programme organised by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Organisation of Tadhamunul Muslimeen (OTM) tagged: “Family Stability Seminar.”

The cleric, who is the Imam of Gwarinpa Mosque, said that pious and upright mother was crucial to raising good children.

He said it was the duty of good wife to prevent children from getting corrupted by deviant forces.

He also advised parents to manage their misunderstandings before it blossomed to affect the psychological balance of their children.

“Children are among the greatest treasure a nation or a parent can have,” he said.

“A child is born with undiluted nature and sound ideology. You should monitor what they watch on your television sets, satellites and social media. The best institution to do this and to train children is home. If the family fails to perform its role, the society will take over. If children fail to get care and affection, they go out to look for them,” he added.

In his opening remarks, the FCT OTM Wakil, Abdurrauf Babalola, represented by Dawah Officer, Ustaz Shafiu Badmos, underscored the need for parents to produce pious children.

Also speaking at the occasion, Ustaz Ismail Sodiq urged parents to give knowledge to their children, advising them against leaving the task to teachers.

In a brief lecture entitled: “Strategies to Survive Economic Recession,” Ustaz Shafiu Badmos enjoined familes to cut cost and reduce unnecessary spending to survive the recession.
