UBEB to build storey buildings in FCT schools

- By Abubakar Haruna

The Executive Director of the Federal Capital Administration Universal Basic Education Board (FCT-UBEB), Dr Adamu Jatau Noma, has announced that the board would construct upstairsin both urban and rural schools in the FCT.

Dr Noma told journalists in his office in Abuja, said this would reduce over crowdeding of the pupils in classes.

“FCT schools are over congested due to daily influx of people to Abuja city. We are building upstairs in our schools. You can see that we don’t have space in our schools. Therefore, that is the only way to provide space in our schools in the city and rural areas”.

He said the board initiated the project five years ago, adding that it had already constructed storey buildings in some schools in the city centre of the FCT.

According to him, the structure would attract children to go to school particularly in rural areas.

He said the board was making frantic efforts to ensure that adequate classrooms are made available to children in the FCT.

The Executive Director, who did not give the quantity of the project, said that the project would help basic and secondary education in the FCT.

He said that last year 11 junior secondary schools were created to ensure that children get access to education.
