Fear grips Kwali community over invasion by bandits

- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

The residents in Fagu community in Kwali Area Council now live in fear after some farmers sighted armed bandits in a forest near the village.

A resident of the community, who gave his name as Daniel, said the suspected gunmen camped inside a thick forest near the community.

He said a farmer went to his farm last week and sighted uncountable number of gunmen digging yam in a nearby farm.

He said the farmers ran back home to inform the village chief.

He said the presence of the gunmen inside the forest near the village had scared residents of the community.

“Since the farmer saw these gunmen in the forest, some of the farmers now go to their farms in groups,” he said.

“Even though they are not threatening anybody for now but we are not certain what will happen in the future. They may be planning to attack our village or somewhere else,” he added.

He said the village chief and elders of the community had alerted the police division in Kwali.

Efforts to get the Kwali Police Division to comment on the abortive.

Several attempts to call the mobile phone number of the divisional police crime officer, Samuel Adamu, failed.

Our reporter, however, gathered that the Kwali divisional police officer, Friday, visited the council chairman, Mr Joseph Shazhin, in his office to brief him about measures outlined to curtail the situation at the community. matter proved
