FCTA contractors protest payment delays
Members of the Federal Capital Indigenous Contractors Association(FCIC) have decried the non-payment of money for projects executed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) running into billions of naira.
The contractors expressed their frustration after an emergency meeting of the association at the weekend in Abuja.
They claimed the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is owing them billions of naira from various works done in the territory in the last few years.
They alleged that attempts to meet with the Permanent Secretary of the FCTA, Mr. Ajakaiye Babatope were frustrated, saying they are left with no option now than to hit the streets of the nation’s capital to press on the minister of
the FCT, Mohammed Bello, to commence immediate payment of the backlog of contract sum owed them.
The contractors said they have been partners in the development of the FCT but have been treated badly by the authorities in recent time.
They also lamented that to execute the projects, most of the contractors borrowed monies from financial institutions to meet with the contractual agreements.
The group therefore called on the authorities of the FCT to honour the contract agreements by paying for all projects duly executed by them.
