PDP fingers APC over delayed Rivers rerun election
The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) for causing delay in conducting the legislative rerun elections in the state.
INEC had early this year said the legislative rerun would be held in October but did not announce a specific date.
The Rivers PDP, in a press statement by its state chairman, Felix Obuah, said there was credible information “confirming the grave plan” by the leadership of the APC, in conjunction with some senior officials of INEC, to push for another shift in the conduct of the elections.
The statement alleged that INEC wanted to use alleged insecurity in the state as well as logistics problems on the side of the commission as reasons for the postponement.
The PDP said as the month of October draws to an end, the moves to further postpone the election did not come to it as a shocker, as “right from the onset, the APC has never shown any readiness to genuinely participate in a free, fair and non-violent elections in Rivers State.”
The statement said the APCled federal government had failed to take into cognizance the pragmatic efforts of the Governor Nyesom Wike led-government in tackling insecurity, armed robbery, kidnapping, cult-related clashes and other social vices across the state.
The PDP, therefore, berated the APC’s push for another postponement, saying there was no justification for it.
It decried the continued absence of Rivers State representatives in the Senate and its partial presence in the House of Representatives following the inconclusive elections in the state.
The PDP chairman said his party had earlier taken the delay “with a pinch of salt” but added that they have been further made to believe in the grand plan after allegedly spotting APC chieftains at INEC offices in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
