Lawmaker donates N.8m to widows in Nasarawa
The member representing Doma South Constituency at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Akoza James Dangana, has donated N800,000 to 80 widows and other women drawn from his constituency for them to engage in constructive endeavours.
Dangana said the gesture was to fulfill a pledge by his late wife, Ann Dangana, who died one year ago.
Ann Dangana had during the 2015 electioneering campaign promised to empower widows and women if her husband eventually won.
Dangana said instead of hosting a thanksgiving only in honour of his late wife, he decided to reach out to women with cash donations as support them in starting little businesses.
“I decided to empower 80 widows and other women with 10,000 naira each from the four electoral wards that make up my constituency, namely Rukubi, Akpanaja, Doka and Agbashi to benefit from my late wife’s initiative, the Dangana Widows/Women Empowerment Programme,” he said.
Dangana also promised the people of his constituency of a robust and quality representation, and therefore solicited for their support to enable him succeed.
The state Commissioner of Community and Rural Development, Alhaji Mustapha Yahaya-Idris, and chairman, Interim Management Committee of Doma Local Government Council, Danlami John Ogah, commended the lawmaker for reaching out to the less privileged
