Kaduna to resume school feeding programme soon
The Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Andrew Nok has said the state government is currently putting the needed logistics in place to resume its school feeding programme.
He disclosed this at the weekend while commissioning an e-library constructed and equipped by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) at Queen Amina College, Kaduna.
The state government commenced the school feeding programme in January 2016 but suspended it after eight months following the failure of the federal government to reimburse the state as agreed.
The suspension of the programme, Daily Trust gathered, reduced school attendance of pupils in some parts of the state.
The commissioner said more than N8 billion was spent on school feeding within the first eight months of the programme in 2016. Under the arrangement, he said the federal government would feed pupils from primary one to three, while the state government would take responsibility for pupils from primary four to six.
Speaking while commissioning the e-library, he described the facility as a crucial infrastructure needed to make students information and communication technology compliant, and commended UBEC for the gesture.
Earlier, the principal of the Queen Amina College, Hajiya Balkisu Ubangari stated that the e-library for the college as constructed by UBEC would go a long way to improve the quality of teaching and learning.
