The Chairman of Abaji Area Council, Abdulrahman Ajiya, has disengaged 26 staff of the council.
A source in the office of the head of administration of the council, who preferred anonymity, confided in our reporter yesterday that the 26 affected staff were those that were given late appointment by the last PDP administration of the council, under the leadership of Alhaji Yahaya Garba Gawu.
He said apart from the last minute appointments, some of the affected staff’s appointment letters were back dated.
The source said immediately the present chairman assumed office, he set up a committee to verify the staff strength in order to ascertain the number of staff who are on the councils pay roll.
“So last two weeks the committee submitted its report and the chairman acted on it, whereby 26 staff discovered to have problems with their appointments were later disengaged,” he said.
Reacting, the chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, confirmed the disengagement of the 26 staff, saying the appointment of the affected staff was not done under due process by the past administration of the council.
He said he set up a second committee after the first one when he assumed office who reviewed the whole processes again, before the council arrived at the decision.
According to him, the first verification committee discovered that some of the staff appointments were back dated to 2014, while the committee verification discovered that some of the appointments were done some few days to the councils’ election.
“And I want to tell you that some of the appointments done by the past administration were politically motivated, as up till now things have not improved as we are still battling to pay staff salaries,” he said.
