The management of Asokoro District Hospital would soon begin disposal of 34 unclaimed corpses.

The corpses included that of a 2014 Nyanya bomb blast victim.

The hospital said interested persons are advised to visit the hospital’s morgue for possible identification.

Of the 34 unclaimed corpses, 21 were deposited in 2016, 11 in 2015 and two in 2014 respectively.

In a publication signed by the management and released on Thursday, police officers from different divisions deposited 22 corpses.

Also four corpses were deposited by joint officers from National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDS), while an officer of the NSCDS also deposited one in 2016.

“Notice is hereby given that seven days from the date of this publication, this hospital will commence the evacuation of the underlisted unknown/ unclaimed corpses,” the publication read. The FCT chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr. Joseph K. Shazin, has said the six area councils of the territory are also expecting to get up to N5 billion from Paris Club funds.

Shazin, who was speaking during an interview with our reporter, yesterday in his office, said the six council chairmen, under the umbrella of ALGON have been pressing to ensure that the funds are released to them through the FCTA.

He said the money would help the councils offset backlog of staff salaries and ex- political appointees’ entitlements.

“I believe that since other states have gotten theirs, the FCT will also get its share, even though I don’t know the figure, but FCT should get up to N5 billion,” he said.

Shazin, who is the chairman of Kwali Area Council, said there are major areas where the funds would be channeled to across the area councils, saying, “like uncompleted capital projects, ongoing capital projects, and to pay salaries. Those are the major areas.”
