Reps send delegation to Osun over Ile-Ife killings
The House of Representatives has resolved to send a 5-man delegation to Ile-Ife, Osun State over the recent killings in the area.
Adopting a motion by Rep Mohammed Sani Zorro (APC, Jigawa), the House said the delegation would convey its sympathy to the government and people of Osun State, the Ooni of Ife, leaders of the Hausa community and other stakeholders.
The delegation would report back to the House within two weeks for further legislative action.
The House urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently send relief materials to the displaced victims of the crisis who are at various facilities across the state.
The lawmakers also mandated the committees on police affairs, human rights and emergency and disaster preparedness to monitor the unfolding events.
Moving the motion, Zorro said the House noted with concern the unfortunate communal disturbances between the Yoruba and Hausa communities at Ile-Ife on March 8.
The House appealed to the media, particularly the social media, socio-cultural organizations and all other commentators to exercise discretion and utmost restraint in reporting and commenting on the incident so as to avoid raising undue anxiety capable of aggravating the situation.
