Struggling Wikki can win NPFL title – Matori

- By David Ngobua

Although they are presently struggling to stay afloat, Chairman of Wikki Tourists, Hon. Isa Musa Matori has expressed confidence that his team will not only survive the relegation fight but win this year’s Nigeria Professional League title.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former national lawmaker said a quick change in attitude on the side of the technical crew and the players will see Wikki Tourists out of its precarious position.

He said to arrest the declining fortunes of the club, he had a meeting with the coaching crew and players and handed to them a four match ultimatum for them to sit up or face the necessary sanctions.

Matori therefore assured that once the coaches and players change their present attitude, Wikki Tourists will witness the much needed resurgence.

“In view of the declining fortunes of our dear club, we have discussed intensively and the coaches and players have been given four matches within which to arrest the present decline.

“They need to change their attitude. Once this is done, I am confident we would return to winning ways. It is still possible for us to win the league title.

“I believe that with hard work, dedication and commitment, we shall get out of our present position on the table and also snatch the title from those who are presently leading the table,” he assured.

Matori also said the government of Bauchi State has continued to give unflinching support to Wikki Tourists so they have no reason to fail.

He said Wikki Tourists are among the most motivated clubs in the NPFL and the only way to reciprocate the kind gestures of government is to post encouraging results.

“I am personally worried by the team’s performance because government has done so much for us.

“In spite of the present setback, we are still enjoying hundred per cent support from the government and people of the state.

“I am very much optimistic that Wikki won’t be relegated. I believe the coaches and players will take the ultimatum given to them seriously and buckle up. Once that is done, we shall pick up again,” he assured.

Wikki Tourists with two outstanding matches to play are presently 20th on the NPFL table.
