Ka’Oje wants Dalung to follow due process on Lagos national stadium

- By David Ngobua

Former minister of sports, Hon, Bala Bawa Ka’Oje has advised the present minister of sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung to follow due process before handing over the Lagos national stadium to Lagos State.

Following the inability of federal government to maintain the Lagos stadium, the governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi Ambode approached the minister of sports for the stadium to be handed over to Lagos State for renovation and maintenance.

In what appears to be ministerial approval, both the minister of sports and the Lagos State governor recently carried out the inspection of the decayed national stadium.

However, the former minister of sports told Daily Trust that in as much as the initiative is commendable, if it is to overcome the challenges it is bound to face, due process must be followed.

He said “What happened between the minister of sports and the governor of Lagos State over the Lagos national stadium is a step in the right direction. However, there are some shortcomings.

“The Lagos stadium belongs to the whole country. It is a national monument that cannot be given out without following due process. The transfer of the edifice has to undergo some processes which I haven’t heard have been followed.

“The sports minister should have carried out due diligence and submitted a memo to the Federal Executive Council for permission to transfer the edifice to Lagos State. I am not sure such was done. For me I know this is going to face a lot of challenges because the right steps have not been taken but it is a good initiative. Due process should have been followed.”
