CRIME Pastor, woman killed by gunmen in Benin

- From Usman A. Bello, Benin

The founder and head pastor of Love Fire Ministry, Pastor Godwin Emmanuel, has been killed by gunmen in Edo State.

It was gathered that the deceased, who founded the church 11 months ago, was shot dead on Sunday night along Oko Central road, Benin, Edo State.

Narrating the incident to journalists yesterday, head of media of the church, Festus Edema, said the pastor was on his way to distribute food items to members of the church and to drop one of his members at Oko Central road, when he was shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.

He said “the killers pretended to be pushing their car that broke down. The man of God stopped for them to pass so that he can have his way. He never knew that the people came to attack him. That is how they shot him in the chest and stomach,”

When journalists visited the premises of the church, situated at 3, Ugiagbe Street in Benin, the members were seen discussing the incident.

In a related development, gunmen suspected to be hired assassins have shot and killed a middle-aged woman, Mrs. Pat Oyo Omo-Osagie.

It was gathered that her assailants, on Sunday, trailed her to her residence, located along Adesuwa road, GRA, in Benin and shot her dead.

Until her death, the deceased operated a provision/snacks store along Agenmomen road.

Confirming the incidents, the state police commissioner, Mr. Haliru Gwandu, lamented the increase in cases of assassination in the state.

He however assured that those involved in the killings in the state would be fished out and brought to justice.

On Mrs Omo-Osagie killing, Gwandu said two persons have been arrested, adding that the police would unravel those involved in the killing.
