CITY NEWS Robbers stab driver, attack passengers at Yaba

Adriver was stabbed by suspected armed robbers in the wee hours of yesterday near Yaba village in Abaji Area Council.

A resident of the area, Saidu, said the incident happened at about 12:23a.m. when the victim, Dagami Amos ran into a roadblock a gang of suspected robbers had mounted.

He said after they had stabbed Amos, they went on to dispossess passengers of their monies, phones and other valuables.

He said the robbers barricaded the road with logs of wood at Leventis Farms. He said robbers bore locally made pistols and daggers.

He said the vehicle was conveying bags of garri from Kpada village to Abuja when they got trapped by the robbers.

“One of the robbers used a dagger and stabbed the driver on his head when he tried to make u-turn to escape.

“They ordered passengers from other vehicles to lie down and robbed them of their monies,” he said.

He said the sporadic gun shots by the robbers caused pandemoniu­m as residents of the community ran for cover.

He said the injured driver was later taken to Abaji town where he was treated and discharged.

When contacted, the Abaji Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP David Kolo, confirmed the incident.

He said he was alerted by the police at Yaba outpost at about 12:00a.m., saying before his men arrived the scene, the hoodlums had fled. He said the police are still hunting for them.
