- From Ahmed Tahir Ajobe, Minna

Niger State Fadama Coordinating Office says it is currently rehabilitating 31.10 kilometer roads linking various communities and farm clusters in areas where its activities are prominent.

These include the 9.4 kilometres Majin Gari road in Lavun Local Government as well as 3.5kilometres Chiri road under common user facility.

Among them also is the 15.5 kilometers road linking seven farm communities in Badegi, Katcha Local Government Area of the state awarded to Swaleys Nigeria Limited in June last year at the cost of N329 million.

Daily Trust recalls that contractors were mobilized to site immediately after the contract was awarded and had done the right of way clearance before works were suspended following heavy down pour.

Swaleys’ project manager, Adeyaju Alamu told journalists at the project site at the weekend that the works which has eight months duration has reached 70 percent completion.

“As I speak we have attained 70 percent completion and I’m assuring you that we will meet the contract duration and specification,” he assured.

The project coordinator, Alhaji Aliyu Usman Kutigi, said the office has also rehabilitated 22 kilometers in seven locations also under common user facility. This, he said, was in addition to culverts constructed in farm communities in Katcha, Gbako, Bida, Wushishi and Rijau local government areas.

He said with access roads, the problem of gluts would be addressed as farmers would be able to move their produce from farms to the market even as such gesture would afford buyers opportunity to engage farmers directly in their farms.
