Zamfara PDP backs Sheriff
…Oyo chapter affirms support for Makarfi
The PDP in Zamfara State yesterday declared support for Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff and urged all party members to look beyond partisanship and support him.
Speaking during a solidarity visit to Sheriff yesterday in Abuja, the chairman of the Zamfara State chapter of the party, Alhaji Nasiru Milo, in company of over 1000 members, called on all The Oyo State chapter of the PDP at the weekend rose from an emergency meeting in Ibadan calling for the sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy by all and sundry.
While expressing optimism in the Supreme Court as the last hope for all Nigerians, the party raised an alarm that attempts were being made to destroy the democratic gains that the party made in the last 16years by those it described as “fifth columnists.”
Those at the meeting included Sen. Ayoade Adeseun, a former majority leader of the House of PDP members to work with Sheriff as a team to build a formidable opposition in the country.
“We deserve a formidable opposition in Nigeria, a party that can move the country forward. It is clear that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has so far moved the nation backward,” he said.
“We all gathered here to restate our support and rejoice with our hero, Sheriff, whose emergence as the authentic leader Representatives, Mulikat AkandeAdeola; the party’s state chairman of the interim management committee (Makarfi group), Muraina Ajibola; a former Minister of State for FCT, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide; Dr. Saka Balogun, Chief M. F. Adeegbe, Chief Jacob Adetoro, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeniyan and Sen. Hosea Agboola (immediate past Senate deputy whip) represented by Hon Dayo Ogungbenro.
They rose in defence of all the steps taken so far by the Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led faction in the PDP and ensuring that justice was done on the party’s true leadership. of the party has been affirmed by the Court of Appeal,’’ Milo said.
He also hailed Sheriff’s wisdom so far in leading the party and carrying all members along, and advised that all members should support him to work out modalities for the party’s national convention.
Sheriff in his response thanked the Zamfara visitors for having confidence in his ability to get the PDP out of the woods.
Speaking one after the other, the PDP leaders allayed the fears of party supporters in the state, noting that over 80 per cent of PDP members in the whole of the country are solidly behind Makarfi.
“By this communiqué, we express our vote of confidence in the Makarfi-led caretaker committee and we support and bind ourselves with all steps taken by him and his members, including but not limited to the pursuit of an appeal at the Supreme Court,” the PDP leaders said.
