Tinubu to Buhari: Sell refineries to Nigerians
The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has advised the Federal Government to sell the public refineries to Nigerians.
Tinubu gave the advice at the 9th Bola Ahmed Tinubu Colloquium organised to mark his 65th birthday in Lagos, saying Nigeria could not continue to be doing the same thing and expect different results in the oil sector. “Let Nigerians own these refineries and bring in expatriates as partners,” he said.
Tinubu who spoke on a number of other anomalies in the nation’s economy, wondered why Nigerians were importing newsprints when there was a capacity to produce in Nigeria, and advocated the need to develop the publishing industry.
Recalling how his efforts as a former Lagos State Governor in collaboration with his former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice who is currently Nigerian Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, saw to the breaking of monopoly in the power sector and the installation of the first Independent Power Project, also appealed to the Federal Government to tap into all available power generating sources to provide stable electricity for Nigerians.
Tinubu applauded the relationship between President Buhari and Osinbajo, saying both men had shamed their critics by working together without rancour, despite having different backgrounds.
“Showing himself to be a selfless leader, President Buhari set the stage by giving strategic policy guidance and direction. Showing himself to be equally selfless, our VP, as acting President, worked as the faithful arm of the president, by diligently putting in action what President Buhari had direceted him in word to do.
