2017 Zenith Bank Women Basketball League dunks off today

The 2017 Zenith Bank Women Basketball League will dunk off later today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Package B of the National Stadium, Abuja with phase one matches.

President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Tijjani Umar said at a Press Conference in Abuja on Sunday that the league will begin with an opening ceremony.

He said all the 18 teams were already in Abuja to battle for the top prize.

The teams that will participat­e in this year’s league are: Dolphins, First Bank, Nigeria Custom, Immigratio­n, Akure Sunshine Angels, First Deepwater, FCT Angels, Taraba Hurricanes, Zamfara Babes and Nasarawa Amazons.

Others are Oluyole Babes, GT 2000, IGP Queens, Benue Princess, Ahip Queens, Delta Force, Plateau Rocks and Ekiti Angels.

The NBBF boss said that the fixtures had been scheduled to ensure a hitch-free competitio­n.

He also assured that the league will be upgraded to Premier Basketball League status next season.

“Out of the 18 clubs that will compete in this year’s league season, the top 12 teams will be move up to form Women Premier Basketball League next season while the remaining six clubs will be join by those promoted from lower division to form the Women Basketball Second Division,” he said.

In today’s fixtures, Delta Force will open the season against Coal City while Ekiti Angels will take on IGP Waters.

Also, First Bank will be up against Nasarawa Amazons, Dolphin will face FCT Angels while Customs will slug it out with GT 2000 in the final match of the day.
