Kano: NDLEA intercepts fake police pilot van with 715kg of cannabis
Kano State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted fake police pilot van with 715 kilograms of cannabis in the state.
The van, intercepted along state road in Kano metropolis, was painted in police colour, decorated with siren and tinted glasses, the Daily Trust observed.
The NDLEA state commandant, Hamza Umar, said two suspects including the driver of the car were arrested, adding that they disguised as policemen with police camouflage facingcaps when they were arrested.
“This is a new tactics adopted by drug dealers. Nevertheless, we are battle ready to crack them down no matter what tactics they have introduced into the dirty business,” he assured.
He said preliminary investigation had indicated that the vehicle was from Edo State and its final destination was Gashua in Yobe State.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed that they were supplying cannabis to Gashua every month. We are still investigating the matter with view to discovering who these people are supplying the cannabis to,” he said.
The commandant added from January to March this year, 42 suspected drugs peddlers were arrested, seven others prosecuted and 4,431kg of various hard drugs had been intercepted in the state.
He said among the intercepted drugs were 1,123.284kg of cannabis, 3,307.903kg of pharmaceutical drugs and 2gm of cocaine.
Umar further stated that a truck with inscription of Ebonyi State Government boldly written on it and registration number NKE 41 LG was also intercepted with 64kg of cannabis concealed in sacks.
“The drug barons concealed the cannabis with fish in sacks thinking that our people would assume that the sacks contained only fish not cannabis,” he said.
However, he said three suspects were arrested and they had confessed to be from Anambra State on their way to Libya.
He said the suspects said they were supplying cannabis to Libya twice in a month before they were arrested by NDLEA officials.
