Kwara extends transition c’ttees tenure
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has approved the extension of the tenure of members of transition implementation committees (TICs) of the 16 local government areas of Kwara State.
According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Sola Gold, the extension followed the expiration of the tenure of the previous transition committee members.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State chapter of the PDP has condemned the state government’s reconstitution of transition chairmen, describing such decision three times in six months as “retrogressive.”
A statement by the factional state chairman of the party, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, said the opposition parties and generality of the people were expecting the governor to conduct elections into the local government areas.
He said by the latest development, the state government had short-changed the people at the grassroots who were yearning for development of their localities through democratic structures.
He cited examples of judgements delivered by judges at different courts where elections were nullified based on non-use of card reader and voters register.
Ejeh, who was represented by Onuoha Oliver, said delivering judgements on election petition cases and other sensitive political matters was a crucial aspect of the role of the judiciary and must therefore be consistent.
