The FCT police have arrested two middle aged men for allegedly snatching a woman’s handbag at Utako, Abuja.

A statement by the FCT Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Useni Omorodion, said the suspects were arrested on Friday, at about 6;30a.m. when they allegedly accosted the woman while on her way to work.

He said the suspects took away some valuables inside the victims handbag but policemen from the Utako division on being alerted went after the suspects and arrested them.

He said the items taken were later recovered, while the suspects, whom he gave their names as Umar Mohammed and Idris Umar, are currently under police custody, while investigat­ions are still on going.

The statement said the FCT Commission­er of Police, Musa Kimo, assured the residents that the command will continue to do everything to tackle any crime in order to make the FCT safer. The police in Gwarinpa have arrested four people including two guards attached to a constructi­on site on First Avenue, Gwarinpa, for allegedly stealing 165 pieces of iron rods.

Police sources said two suspects were arrested for stealing while the other two were arrested for receiving properties suspected to have been stolen. The guards were arrested last Tuesday. The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said some of the iron rods were recovered from those they sold them to in Jabi and Dei Dei.

He said two people suspected to have bought the iron rods were in custody and that they would be prosecuted.

“We have recovered 30 pieces from Dei Dei, the remaining is at Jabi, we are still investigat­ing,” he said.
