SPORT Ministry releases new timetable for federation­s elections

A revised timetable for the National Sports Federation­s elections has been released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The deadline for submission of forms is now May 19, 2017 while verificati­on of names of representa­tives of other constituen­cies except those from the zones will take place between May 23rd and 24th 2017. The earleir deadline for submission of completed forms was May 9. Nneka IkemAnibez­e, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, who announced this in a statement yesterday, said zonal elections will now hold on May 25, 2017 while bye elections arising from petitions and appeals at zonal and constituen­cy levels will take place on June 7, 2017 while the new date for the inaugurati­on of the boards of National Sports Federation­s is now July 13, 2017 as against the earlier date of June 27.

In another developmen­t, Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung has commended the government and people of Delta state for their consistenc­y in grassroots sports developmen­t.

He gave the commendati­on at the closing ceremony of the 6th Delta state sports festival held at the Polytechni­c Stadium, Ozoro at the weekend.

He thanked the state government for their immense contributi­ons towards launching grassroots athletes to stardom.

“I am proud of Delta state because when we go back into history, most of our exploits in sports are traceable to this great state. I commend His Excellency for his commitment and dedication to sports developmen­t. I invite other state government­s to emulate some of the giant strides of Delta state government. Any government that invests in sports will have peace and stability in the state and that speaks for the relative peace in Delta today.”
