SPORT Ministry releases new timetable for federations elections
A revised timetable for the National Sports Federations elections has been released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The deadline for submission of forms is now May 19, 2017 while verification of names of representatives of other constituencies except those from the zones will take place between May 23rd and 24th 2017. The earleir deadline for submission of completed forms was May 9. Nneka IkemAnibeze, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, who announced this in a statement yesterday, said zonal elections will now hold on May 25, 2017 while bye elections arising from petitions and appeals at zonal and constituency levels will take place on June 7, 2017 while the new date for the inauguration of the boards of National Sports Federations is now July 13, 2017 as against the earlier date of June 27.
In another development, Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung has commended the government and people of Delta state for their consistency in grassroots sports development.
He gave the commendation at the closing ceremony of the 6th Delta state sports festival held at the Polytechnic Stadium, Ozoro at the weekend.
He thanked the state government for their immense contributions towards launching grassroots athletes to stardom.
“I am proud of Delta state because when we go back into history, most of our exploits in sports are traceable to this great state. I commend His Excellency for his commitment and dedication to sports development. I invite other state governments to emulate some of the giant strides of Delta state government. Any government that invests in sports will have peace and stability in the state and that speaks for the relative peace in Delta today.”
