Bauchi Tourism Golf Tournament goes international
Organisers of the Bauchi Tourism Golf Tournament have said the annual golf fiesta would go international as from the 2019 edition in line with the initiative of Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi State to use sports to showcase the tourism potentials of the state.
Disclosing this in a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, the Chairman of the organising committee for the tournament, Alhaji Ibrahim Alhassan Babayo said as a first step towards achieving their target, the committee plans to make next year’s edition a Pro-Am tournament.
Babayo, who is the Chief Cleaner of Cosmopolitan Cleaners Limited one of the sponsors of the tournament, explained that for this year’s tournament, few professional golfers will be invited for trials at the two-day event, which holds on Friday and Saturday this weekend at the Bauchi Golf and Country Club.
He said all golf clubs in the country are invited for the tournament being sponsored by Cosmopolitan Cleaners Limited, Keystone Bank, Sarplast Limited, Noblegate Projects Limited, CGC, Rockbridge and Prudent Integrated Limited among others.
Besides Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State and his Plateau State counterpart Simon Lalong and the over 250 golfers expected to feature at the twoday golf fiesta, Babayo revealed that the Emirs of Dutse, Kazaure, Nupe, Suleja and host Emir of Bauchi are expected to swing at the golf tournament.
Babayo commended Governor Abubakar for the initiative, saying it has started paying off as the traffic to Yankari Games Reserve increased after the first edition that was followed by a visit to the foremost Games Reserve by the visiting golfers.
