Fake drugs: Gaidam approves offices for NAFDAC
Yobe State Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has approved two zonal offices, plot of land and vehicles for the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to curb proliferation of fake drugs and substandard food in the state.
The governor made this approval yesterday when the Acting Director General of the Agency, Ms Yetunde Oni, visited him at the Government House, Damaturu.
Gaidam said the offices and vehicles were provided to the agency to take proactive steps towards enforcement of regulations, enhancing standard and guiding productions, sale and distribution of regulated products to safeguard the health of the public.
The governor expressed readiness of his administration to partner the Agency in check the proliferation of the fake products, while thanking the DG for selecting Yobe to host the 2017 NAFDAC drugs awareness campaign for the Northeastern states.
In her response, the acting DG said that Yobe State was selected to host the campaign base on the concern raised by the state government on drugs abuse and the need to safeguard them from the menace.
“We are launching the sensitization programme to give the people a sense of belonging and ownership of the fight against fake and substandard food and drugs in the state” she said.
