Plateau NUJ remembers fallen colleagues
The Plateau State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) yesterday organised a memorial lecture for her departed members 10 years after it lost eight journalists in a motor accident while on official duty from Shendam LGA.
Yesterday’s memorial lecture with the theme, “Journalism: Risk, Responsibilities and Resilience in a Changing World” was combined with a N50m fund raising for an ICT centre at the NUJ secretariat.
The event which took place at the Eliel centre in Jos paid tribute the fallen eight of May 16th 2007 including, Judith Adama of New Nigeria Newspaper, Musa Nuhu of News Agency of Nigeria, Moses Ezulike of Champion Newspaper, Isaac Agbo of Nation Newspaper, Emmanuel Adoniyi of AIT, Sudan Lar Gorong of NTA, James Avre of LEADERSHIP newspaper and Reuben Emeje.
Journalists also paid tributes to Hir Joseph of Daily Trust Newspaper, Enenche Adikwu, Gyang Bwede, Nathan Dabak and Augustine Simji.
Director General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Sir Joseph Ari in a keynote lecture urged Nigerian media owners to domesticate some of the safety measures provided by the International Federation of Journalists safety guidebook.
Ari noted that reporters and their media houses must evolve a culture of risk assessment before undertaking any assignment.
