Bauchi Governor hosts second Tourism Golf Tournament
This time last year, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Barrister Muhammed Abubakar made a bold move to drive the elaborate tourism potentials of the state through game of golf. He even hosted a Tourism Golf tournament to prove he meant business. That event was so massive that another tourney played out barely three months after. Ever since then, the ebullient Governor who cherishes golf with uncanny passion has not looked back.
Aside moving to create a 9-hole golf course Yankari Games Reserve, one of the world’s most cherished tourism landmarks, Governor Abubakar has been doing all within his powers to get Tourists at Yankari to journey down to the vast course in Bauchi and savour a round of golf. The whole thing is paying off as activities around the Bauchi Golf Club are swelling and commerce is building.
And come this weekend, Abubakar is set to host the 2nd Tourism Golf event at the Bauchi course. This tourney is even looking real up as close to 350 players from across the country have signed up to play. Among them are three Governors and five Emirs. Games will hold in all Categories as the spirits behind the event have gone out of their way to ready numerous valuable prizes and silverware. And this might stun and amaze you, but selected professionals, numbering close to 50 will feature in this year’s tourney. Those professionals who will feature will be entitled to Appearance fees.
“We strive to make this tourney bigger every year”, Alhaji Ibrahim Babayo, organising committee chairman of the event and indeed the Chief Cleaner of Cosmopolitan Cleaners disclosed.
“We are inviting some Pros to this year’s event and I can assure you that next year’s game will be a Pro-Am.
“Let me mention here that the Bauchi Governor has made it clear on the need to drive our vast Tourism base through golf. Those of us who are close to him have made it a point of duty to assist in making this happen. And this is reason we are organizing a bigger event this year. And what is more, new sponsors who believe in the Tourism drive of the Governor have come forward to support the tourney. I must add that this year’s event will be total fun as presentation of prizes will happen at the prestigious Yankari Games Reserve”.
Babayo mentioned that companies who have committed to the event include Cosmopolitan Cleaners, Keystone Bank, Noblegate Projects, Sarplast, CGC and Rockbridge Construction.
