Police arrest 7 highway robbers, recover pistol, 3 vehicles

Katsina State Police Command has arrested five members of an armed robbery gang terrorisin­g highways in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Isa Gambo, said Abdulaziz Ibrahim of Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State, who sustained injury during a gun duel with police was apprehende­d and later led to the arrest of other four members of the gang.

He said the robbers had earlier blocked the road after Tudun Iya village, along Funtua - Zaria road where they attacked one Salisu Suleiman of Zamfara State and robbed him of his ash-coloured motor vehicle, valued at N2 million.

The gang, he said, had also robbed other victims of the sum of N100,000 and three GSM hand sets.

The PRO said upon receiving the informatio­n, patrol team mobilized to the scene, engaged the robbers in a gun duel and chased them up to ABU Teaching Hospital Zaria, Kaduna State.”

“In addition the team recovered another Golf 3 wagon saloon motor vehicle with registrati­on number MSA 397 PD, one locally made pistol, pellets and gun powder, two machetes, two sticks, torch lights and charms. Another car recovered was Golf 3 saloon with registrati­on number AA 215 BMJ,” he said.

Also, the command has smashed an armed robbery syndicate terrorizin­g ShemeFuntu­a road, Katsina State.

Two persons, Adamu Isah alias Wada, 35, and Abubakar Ibrahim, 25, of Sauran Mairuwa village, Faskari, Katsina State were arrested. They confessed to being members of a sixman robbery gang led by one Nabatsari now at large. Investigat­ion is ongoing with a view to apprehendi­ng the ring leader.
