- From Eugene Agha, Lagos

Violence yesterday marred the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections held in Lagos ahead of the state’s councils’ elections.

Two people, including the chairman of the motorcycle riders’ union, Rasak Bello, also known as Hamburger, were killed during the party primaries for councillors in Sogunle area of Oshodi.

The deceased are supporters of two rival groups in the area.

Though, the police in the state confirmed the death of one person, sources told Daily Trust that two persons were killed while many were injured.

The police also said that normalcy had been restored in the troubled spots.

The deceased Hamburger was few weeks ago commended and recommended for the Lagos State governor by the youths in the area and the Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Oyegbenle.

Many other persons were injured in a pocket of violence in Ilupeju, Mushin, Ogudu and other places, where the primaries took place.

It was gathered that Hamburger had gone to observe the primaries at the venue for the Ladipo Sogunle Ward, when he was attacked.

His attacker believed he was there to influence a particular candidate.

Lagos State Police spokesperson, Olarinde Famous-Cole confirmed an “incident” at Sogunle but insisted that “not two persons were killed”. He also did not confirm the identity of the deceased.
