Two persons lost their lives, while 22 others sustained injuries after a bus crashed on Friday morning at Yaba junction on Abuja-Lokoja road.

A witness said the accident happened at about 11:23a.m. when a Toyota commuter bus with registration number ABJ 298 XT coming from Lokoja crashed as a result of tyre burst.

He said when the tyre burst, the driver applied brakes instantly, which made him lose control of the steering and the car summersaulted three times before crashing into a ditch.

He said the deceased and the 22 injured were taken to the hospital by the rescue team of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

When contacted, the Abaji Unit Commander of the FRSC, Assistant Corps Commander (ACC) Olasupo Esuruoso, confirmed the accident, attributing it to speed limit violation, tyre burst and loss of control.

He said the two dead bodies have been handed over to their relatives for burial, while the injured victims were taken to Abaji General Hospital and Ayaura comprehensive health centre in the area.

He added that one person also died in another motor accident which occurred on Saturday evening at Aseni village, on the Abuja- Lokoja road.

According to him, the accident happened at about 7:12p.m. and involved a luxury bus with registration number JJJ 88 XG, saying the corpse was deposited at Abaji General Hospital. The Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) Abuja Chapter has called for drastic measures to tackle the rising unemployment in the country especially the youths.

The Chief Imam of the chapter, Sheikh Sharafudeen Aliagan, made the call yesterday in Abuja at the maiden graduation of nine trainees of the NASFAT Empowerment Scheme.

The beneficiaries, comprising one male and eight females, were trained in meat and fish pies, cake, bread and other modes of baking, fruit juice and smoothies and other confectionaries.

They were also mechanized mini oven.

“Islam clearly forbids begging as Prophet Muhammad reportedly said it is better for a Muslim to go into the bush with rope to fetch woods for sale and earn his living than for him to resort to begging. I urge members and others to assist these beneficiaries to establish bigger outfits to be able to empower others,” Aliagan said. given
