Pillars crush MFM, Plateau fall to Abia Warriors

-

Kano Pillars put in a clinical showing yesterday to defeat MFM 3-1 as Amos Gyang and Adamu Mohammed scored two late goals for Masu Gida to extinguish the fire in MFM at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Rabiu Ali gave Pillars an early advantage when he converted a 13th minute spot kick.

The Olukoya Boys took the game to the 2013 league winners and equalised through Stephen Odey for his 15th goal of the term.

It was not until the 86th minute that Gyang made the breakthrough for Masu Gida as the winger headed the ball into the net.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s boys collapsed and conceded again shortly before the final whistle as Adamu chipped the ball beyond goalkeeper Ospino Egbe to make it 3-1.

Meanwhile a brace from Shedrack Asiegbu was enough to give Abia Warriors a 2-1 victory in their match against leaders Plateau United at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Akwa United were also 2-0 better than Katsina United at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium as the Chanji Boys found themselves two goals down inside just 14 minutes, with Ibrahim Alhassan and Musa Newman the heroes.

In Nnewi, FC IfeanyiUbah could not find their boots as the tie against Wikki Tourists ended 0-0.

In Lokoja, Niger Tornadoes and reigning champions Enugu Rangers settled for a goalless draw at the Confluence Stadium.

El Kanemi Warriors returned to second on the log with a 2-0 victory against relegation haunted Remo Stars. Anthony Sunday bagged a brace as the Desert Warriors deservedly grabbed all maximum points at stake at the El Kanemi Sports Complex.

Shooting Stars picked up just their seventh league win of the season by seeing off ABS FC 2-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium. The Saraki Boys fell behind in the 58th minute after Ibrahim Adewale prodded home following some slack defending on the part of the Ilorin based team.

Despite an onslaught on their goal, the Oluyole Warriors held firm and peeled away to score a killer four minutes from time through Sunday Faleye.

In Lafia, Nasarawa United closed the gap on leaders Plateau United to eight points courtesy of a 1-0 win over Enyimba. Abdulrahman Bashir scored the only goal of the game after 48 minutes.

The Solid Miners now sit eight points adrift of Plateau United, who lost 2-1 to Abia Warriors.

Meanwhile, Gombe United slipped to a 2-1 loss to Sunshine Stars in a close door clash at the Dipo Dina Stadium. Sikiru Alimi gave the Owena Whales the lead when he controlled and finished inside the area after the ball had found it way to him.

Dayo Ojo then doubled Sunshine Stars’ advantage when he reacted quickest to riffle the ball home.
