NASENI, ABUCCIMA agree to work together on entrepreneurship
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ABUCCIMA) have agreed to work together in promoting entrepreneurship drive among Nigerian youths.
They also agreed on the commercialization of some NASENI products and technology equipment that are lying on the shelves for sustainable national and economic development of the country.
NASENI overtime has through its intervention roles manufactured and produced locally-made goods and technology equipment for industrial growth. These include 7.5KVA solar panel, Junior and Primary Science Kits, Propeller wind turbine, Small Hydro power, Pole-Mounted Transformer, NASENI Tricycle (Keke NASENI), Madein-Nigeria motorcycles, Rice thresher, Three-in-one fish smoker, solar dryer, Rotary furnace among others.
Many of these products are presently lying unutilized because NASENI expects Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurs, private and public sectors to patronize taking ownership of the prototypes and mass produce them as well as commercializing them. Specifically that is what the law which established the Agency stipulates.
But hope has emerged that all that may change soon. Engr. Oluseyi Taiwo who led the delegation from the Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ABUCCIMMA) to NASENI yesterday in Abuja said that they were there to look at areas of collaboration and to explore opportunities for members to do business with technology products from the Agency.
He noted the chamber was aware NASENI has a lot of products that could help in the development of the Nigerian economy. “We are here to see how we can leverage on what you are doing to develop the economy and also how our members who are into SMEs can key into what NASENI has on ground, benefit from it and help in developing the economy generally.”
He also requested that NASENI through its engineering infrastructure could engage some members of the chambers in skill acquisition.
Speaking earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive of the Agency, Engr. Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna said that the decree that established NASENI stipulates that the primary target of NASENI is to empower SMEs through the impartation of technologies, engineering principles and practices for the production of equipment that will meet international standard as well as the sustenance of a flourishing local, capital goods and industries.
