CRIME Police arrest two men over killing of pregnant girlfriend
The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two men who allegedly hacked a 20-year-old woman to death at Kanoyel residential area of Gombe metropolis.
The deceased, Sa’adatu Mohammed Sani, popularly known as Saude, reportedly had her neck cut by unknown persons on June 20, 2017 at the above address.
According to a resident of the area who crave for anonymity, late Saude who was staying with her elder brother, left home in the morning on that faithful day to visit a friend at Liji quarters. She was on her way home around 7pm, when she was stopped by two men, just before she could enter the house.
The resident said two unidentified men allegedly took her to an uncompleted building nearby, where they cut her neck with a sharp object and fled the scene.
He said she tried to return to the neighbourhood but collapsed before she could reach the house.
She was rushed to a hospital where medical doctors pronounced her dead, Daily Trust learnt.
However, the following day, June 21, one of the suspects was apprehended by residents of the area when he returned to the crime scene in search of his mobile phone that he had left behind. He was handed over to the police, who swung into action that led to the arrest of the second suspect.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Obed Mary Malum, said the two suspects, Anas Aminu and Nasiru Sahabi, admitted accosting and inflicting cut on the deceased.
DSP Obed said investigation showed that late Saude was pregnant for the first suspect, Anas Aminu, who was her boyfriend, and that she refused to abort the pregnancy despite pleas from him.
Not satisfied with her decision, he allegedly invited his friend, the second suspect, Nasiru Sahabi, to kill her in order to hide the pregnancy from the public.
The PPRO said investigation had been concluded by the police and the two suspects charged to court.
