Gwarinpa police nab 5 car snatching suspects in Kaduna

The police in Gwarinpa have bursted a car snatching syndicate and arrested five suspects who allegedly drug ged taxi drivers and snatched their vehicles.

The suspects, City News gathered, also stole parked vehicles.

A police source said the suspects were arrested Friday in Rigachukun, Kaduna State, through the combined efforts of the Gwarinpa and Rigachukun police divisions.

The source said the suspects were tracked by a phone in one of the vehicles they had stolen after drugging the driver and pushed out of the car.

The source said the suspects usually posed as passengers and boarded executive taxis. They take the drivers to joints where they would coerce him to either drink or eat what they were taking.

“After drugging the driver, they would drive the vehicle to a secluded place where they would push the driver out and flee with the vehicle,” the source said.

The Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the suspects were wanted in connection with two missing Toyota Camry vehicles in which one was snatched and the other stolen from where it was parked in Gwarinpa.

“The suspects, Nura Hamza, Yahaya Salisu, Imrana Lawal, Tahir Usman and Ibrahim Yusuf, were arrested in Rigachukun, Kaduna he said.

He said one of the vehicles had been recovered while effort was on to recover the other.

“All suspects confessed to the crime and that they have taken three vehicles from Abuja in similar circumstan­ces and sold them in Zamfara State,” he said.
