Gombe Utd cry foul after 2-2 draw with FC IfeanyiUbah

- By David Ngobua

Despite forcing host FC IfeanyiUbah to a 2-2 draw in Nnewi, Gombe United have cried foul play alleging they were robbed of victory against the ‘Nnewi millionaires’.

Gombe United pulled out the biggest surprise of the week 31 matches to give their survival prospect a morale lift, as they came from 2 goals down to play out a 2-2 draw with IfeanyiUbah last Sunday.

However, the club is of the view that the result could have been different if the referee had not blown the final whistle with a minute of the five minutes added time remaining when he saw them scoring their third goal.

In a letter of protest to the League Management Company signed by the Secretary of the Club, Bala Abubakar and made available to Daily Trust, the ‘Desert Scorpions’ are therefore asking the league organisers to investigate the incident and award them the maximum points in the week 31 fixture.

“Our team valiantly fought from been two goals down to level the game 2-2 and on the final proceedings the centre referee added 5 minutes as stoppage time (which means a minimum of 5 minutes will be added to the 90 minutes).

“On the 4th minutes of added time our team scored a third goal which should be a winning goal, but much to our bewilderment, as the ball rolled into the back of the net, the centre referee blew his whistle to indicate the match was over.

“At the end of the match, as our Team Manager was going to hand over the video of the match to the Match Commissioner, as it is the tradition, the Anambra State FA Secretary and some unrecognized people seized the tape by force and took it away.

“We would like to urge the LMC to use its good authority and investigate this weird episode with the view to restoring our hard-earned victory and the FA Secretary should be called to order for using force to seize an official video
