MFM top five-goal thriller to keep pressure on Plateau Utd

- By David Ngobua & Dotun Omisakin

Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry, MFM FC, yesterday defeated Katsina United 3-2 in a pulsating week 31 match played in the morning at the Agege Township stadium.

The match did not hold on Sunday as scheduled due to the heavy down pour that made the condition of the pitch unsuitable for football. The ‘Olukoya boy’s are now back to the second spot on the table with 52 points three less than leaders Plateau United who forced Lobi Stars to 0-0 on Sunday in Makurdi.

Katsina United came back from 2-0 to level scores through Destiny Ashadi and super sub Obinna Eleje before MFM’s midfield maestro Chukwuka Onuwa scored the last goal to seal victory for his side.

The other goal scorers for MFM were Stephen Odey, who took his tally to 18 and Olatunbosun Sikiru.

Odey scored his 18th goal of the season in the 15th minute of the match off an assist from Olatunbosun when he chipped over onrushing Katsina’s goalkeeper, Dami Paul, with his head and then finished it neatly.

The ‘Olukoya Boys’ ended the first half in an emphatic fashion in the 29th minute of the game with the second goal of the day when Odey located his strike partner, Olatunbosun with a brilliant pass to double his team’s lead with a great finish.

Eleje, who spoke to Daily Trust on phone after the match said he was pained by the fact that his goal did not save his team from defeat.

He said he is not after personal glory so the goal would have made more meaning to him, if it had saved at least a point for Katsina United.

Eleje however thanked God for making it possible for him to increase his tally in the league.

“I am grateful to God that he enabled me to score another goal. However, we went to Lagos for the three points so I would have been happier had we ended with at least a point.

“In all I thank God for everything. We did our best but it was not good enough,” he said.
