20 years after Kano to revive higher institutions games

- By Ibrahim Musa Giginyu, Kano

Executive Chairman of the Kano State Sport Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima yesterday revealed that, in its bid to discover talents from the grassroots, the state government has decided to resuscitate the Kano State higher institutions of learning games after two decades of abandonment.

Galadima made this know during a press briefing held at the commission’s secretariat on the recent approval given by the state government to camp the home-based Super Eagles ahead of the first leg of their CHAN qualifier against either Benin or Togo.

According to him, the maiden edition of the games will feature 16 institutions that will compete in only football due to the fact that most of the institutions lack the facilities for other games.

He added that, in the coming years there is every hope that, with more institutions joining they will be able to have more events included.

The former NFA chairman added that the event will commence on the 27th of July 2017while the finals will be held on the 10th of August 2017.

On the camping of the Home-Based Super Eagle players, Galadima said all arrangements by the five-man committee to oversee the preparation have being concluded to host the 30 people as communicated to the commission by NFF in terms of their security, transportation, accommodation and all other arrangements.
