Tijjaniyya urges FG to integrate Tsangaya into Western education
The Federal Government has been urged to design a curriculum that will integrate the informal Tsangaya Islamic education into the modern educational system in the country.
The call was made in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day meeting of the Supreme Council of Tijjaniyya leaders yesterday at Command Guest House Bauchi.
Signed by the Chairman of the Communiqué Committee and the Secretary Professor Abdullahi Okene and Alhaji Nasiru Madaki respectively, the communiqué said the integration of the Tsangaya Islamic informal education in Nigeria will go far in eradication of proliferation of street begging by children pursuing Qur’anic knowledge.
They called on the Federal Government to establish Commission for Tsangaya and Islamic Education and appoint people with direct link with the schools to ensure proper development.
The Supreme Council of Tijjaniyya agreed that all the Khalifas and Tariqa leaders should educate the general public on the need for modern system and integration of Tsangaya and Islamic education into the modern educational system, and urged the leaders and clerics to submits details of their Tsangaya and Islamic Schools to Sheik Dahiru Bauchi Foundation.
The meeting was attended by Tijjaniyya clerics and leaders from across the country.
