3 in prison over homosexual hotel in Lagos

Three friends, Patrick Okeze, 56, Sunday Isnag, 30 and Bright Oba, 28, are currently being remanded in prison custody, Lagos for allegedly operating a hotel where homosexual activities are practiced.

The three friends were remanded at the weekend by a Yaba Chief Magistrate­s’ Court in Lagos.

It was gathered that the accused persons are the owners of the hotel known as Vintage Hotel, Owode Onirin.

It was gathered that when detectives raided the place on July 29, 2017, about 28 men were arrested, allegedly indulging in homosexual practices.

The police prosecutor, Romanus Unuigbe, said that for owning a place where same sex activities is being practiced, the accused persons have run fowl of the laws of the land.

The accused, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a charge of aiding and promoting same sex activities.

Chief Magistrate Adewale Ojo, who gave the remand order, said the accused should be remanded in Kirikiri Prison pending the receipt of legal advice from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutio­n.

Ojo adjourned the case till September 8, 2017. The trio had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor, Romanus Unuigbe, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 29 at Vintage Hotel, Owode Onirin, Lagos.

He told the court that the accused encouraged same sex activities in the club and bar section of the hotel while 28 men engaging in homosexual­ity were apprehende­d there.
