Aisha Buhari commissions breastfeeding rooms in Kebbi

Wife of the President Hajiya Aisha Muhammadu Buhari yesterday commissioned breast feeding rooms set up by Kebbi State Government for working mothers in the state ministries, departments and agencies.

While delivering her speech during the commissioning ceremony at the state secretariat, Gwadangwaji area of Birnin Kebbi, Aisha who was represented by her Special Assistant, Hajiya Ajo Sani, said the initiative which was the first of its kind in the country was significant at the period when the country was celebrating the world breast feeding day.

She said, “Today’s event is taking place at the state level in collaboration with my Future Assured Programme with the aim to encourage a separate area where mothers can conveniently breastfeed their babies in the work place.”

Hajiya Buhari added that the initiative would promote the health and wellbeing of mothers and children towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She called on wives of governors in other states to emulate the breastfeeding initiative of the wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr Zainab Abubakar Atiku towards promoting breast feeding among mothers in the state.

Earlier in her speech, Dr Zainab Bagudu said global statistics indicated that 100,000 children died annually as a result of inadequate breast feeding by mothers, leading to $21bn economic loss annually.
