UNILAG disassociates self from post-JAMB screening messages

- From Kayode Ekundayo, Lagos

The University Lagos management has disassociated itself from a text message being circulated advertising that the online registration for the 2017/2018 screening exercise for admission into the institution will commence from Wednesday, August 9th to Wednesday, August 31st, 2017.

The institution described the text message as a scam from unscrupulous elements who wanted to milk innocent people of their hard-earned of money.

Since last week, many prospective students and parents of the institution have been inundated with messages purportedly sent by UNILAG, telling them of the commencement of the postJoint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) screening.

But in a statement yesterday, the management said the message did not emanate from the University of Lagos.

“The University website is the only authentic source of information on admissions,” the university said. The Federal University Dutsinma Katsina is to commence its post graduate school by September this year as approval has already been granted by the National Universities Commission (NUC)

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Armayau Bichi, had also approved the commencement of new undergraduate courses to include BA degrees in Hausa, Islamic Studies and Arabic Studies.

In his remark, the Emir of Katsina Abdulmumin Usman urged students to see themselves as Nigerians not based on ethnicity. This, he said, would foster greater unity.
