Imenger lauds Lobi fans’ behaviour after 'home disaster'

- By David Ngobua

Lobi Stars General Manager and former international, Barnabas Imenger has lauded the behaviour exhibited by the teeming fans of the club after their darling team was defeated 4-2 by visiting Abia Warriors on Sunday.

The ‘Pride of Benue’ had gone 80 games at home without a loss so the defeat in the week 33 fixture at the Aper Aku stadium came as a rude shock to many of the fans.

In a chat with Daily Trust, the former BCC Lions and El-Kanemi Warriors star said the supporters of Lobi Stars conducted themselves in an orderly manner before, during and after the match.

He said it was heart warming that neither the match officials nor the visiting team was molested by the supporters of Lobi Stars.

Imenger said the display of sportsmanship was as a result of the constant enlightenment of the fans on the need for them to shun acts of hooliganism even when the result does not favour their team.

“I want to specially commend Makurdi fans for the sporting behaviour they exhibited even after we lost the match against Abia Warriors.

“It was a painful situation that could have easily triggered protests but the fans saw that the players did their best. It was not our day and they understood the situation.

“This is what we expect from supporters of other clubs. If you are a true fan, you don’t make trouble when your team is defeated. You can only support your club to do better in future,” he said.

Imenger therefore said Lobi Stars will surely bounce back in their next match which is an away fixture against neighbours Nasarawa United.
